Giving AI Coding Agents Better Context for io.Intelligence
The io.Intelligence AI Dev Kit gives coding agents product-specific guidance to help developers plan integrations, troubleshoot problems and build more effectively with io.Intelligence.
AI coding tools have advanced rapidly. What began with generating small snippets of code has evolved into agents that can explore codebases, troubleshoot problems, recommend architectural approaches and build substantial parts of an application.
As these tools become part of everyday software development, however, their limitations become more consequential. Getting code from an AI coding agent is one step. Getting that code to work with your applications, fit your architecture and remain maintainable is another.
The quality of an agent’s output depends on the context available to it. General-purpose models do not automatically understand every product or framework, particularly when the technology is evolving quickly. They may rely on incomplete training data or web searches that surface outdated or irrelevant information. Developers must then find the right guidance, correct faulty assumptions and determine whether the proposed approach fits their project.
That matters when building with io.Intelligence. A coding agent may have limited knowledge of newer capabilities such as io.Assist or the io.Intelligence Server—or lack the product-specific guidance needed to choose the right integration approach.
That is why we created the io.Intelligence AI Dev Kit.
The Dev Kit brings product-specific guidance into the coding tools developers already use, including Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. It helps agents understand how to build with io.Intelligence, the framework for connecting AI assistants to applications and workflows.
The result is more relevant guidance, fewer unsupported assumptions and less time spent correcting avoidable mistakes—while developers remain responsible for reviewing, testing and approving the approach.
Product knowledge where developers need it
The Dev Kit includes a skill: an installable package of instructions and specialist references that a coding agent can consult while it works.
It brings together practical guidance compiled by the people building io.Intelligence, including how its components fit together, which approach best suits a particular requirement, common integration pitfalls and what to check when something does not work.
For development teams, this can support:
- Onboarding: Developers can ask questions as they work with an unfamiliar platform.
- Integration planning: The agent can help teams compare approaches before they commit to an implementation.
- Troubleshooting: Investigations can follow documented checks and draw on evidence from the project.
- More consistent development: Teams can make the same product-specific practices available across supported coding agents.
From a business requirement to a starting point
A developer can begin with a straightforward request:
“We want to add an assistant to this application. Inspect the project and explain what we need before changing anything.”
The Dev Kit helps the agent work through the available options. Depending on the requirement, that might mean using an existing assistant interface, creating a tailored experience or connecting to an existing AI backend.
For new applications, the Dev Kit can also retrieve official starter templates. These provide a foundation that developers can review and extend, with options ranging from ready-made interfaces to more deeply customized implementations.
The Dev Kit supports engineering judgment; it does not replace it. Coding agents can still make mistakes, and any generated changes require review and testing. Developers remain responsible for deciding what to build and approving the approach.
For developers: getting started
Developers can install the skill with one command. The setup guide covers the prerequisites, installation process and suggested first prompts. The community announcement provides more information about starter templates, updates and ways to contribute.
This is the first version of the io.Intelligence AI Dev Kit. Try it on a real project and share your experience in the community—especially where the guidance helped, where it fell short and what would make it more useful for your team.
