How Does the FDC3 Developer Sandbox Work?

The Sandbox offers three main workspaces: Introduction, Demo Apps & Documentation

Whether you’re simply exploring the FDC3 protocol (or you already have an FDC3 app), you can use the FDC3 API directly from the browser console and experiment with your FDC3 apps.

Introduction

This Workspace helps new users get acquainted with the io.Connect Browser platform and its core features. Explore the “Welcome“ app to familiarize yourself with the main platform functionalities. If you are an experienced user, go directly to the “Demo Apps“ Workspace to add your FDC3 apps to the platform and start experimenting with them.

Demo Apps

This Workspace includes a selection of demo FDC3 apps. The “FDC3 App Importer“ app enables you to add your own FDC3 apps to the io.Connect Browser platform. You can use the FDC3 API directly from the browser console to start experimenting with your apps (and our sample apps) and see how they interoperate with each other.

Documentation

This Workspace provides quick access to the io.Connect Browser FDC3 documentation, as well as to the official documentation for the FDC3 standard. Refer to the io.Connect FDC3 documentation for details on the specifics of using FDC3 in io.Connect Browser. Refer to the official FDC3 documentation for details on the FDC3 concepts and API usage.

Does your app play well with others?

In the FDC3 Developer Sandbox, see your app interoperate with sample apps in a fully functional demo environment. For our purposes, we’ve chosen AG Grid and ChartIQ. Share data seamlessly between these apps and your own, and inspect the messages between the apps as they share data with one another.

FDC3 Developer Documentation

FDC3 provides specific protocols and classifications in order to allow desktop apps in financial workflows to interoperate in a plug-and-play fashion without prior bilateral agreements. io.Connect Browser supports fully the FDC3 2.0 standards, serving as your FDC3 desktop agent. Check out complete developer documentation for how to make your app FDC3-compliant.

Why is FDC3 important for software vendors?

FDC3 (Financial Desktop Connectivity and Collaboration Consortium) is crucial for software vendors because it establishes an open standard for inter-application communication within the financial services industry. FDC3 enables seamless interoperability, speeds up time-to-market, improves customer experience, and expands market reach.

As FDC3 is part of FINOS (the Fintech Open Source Foundation), it aligns with the broader trend of open source adoption in finance. Vendors who contribute to or use these standards signal their alignment with industry best practices and thought leadership.

By adopting FDC3, software vendors can ensure their applications are part of a larger, interconnected financial ecosystem, providing long-term value for both themselves and their clients. Learn more about why FDC3 matters for vendors.
