London Hedge Fund Adopts interop.io for Integrated Desktop Experience
The company
A London-based hedge fund successfully raised $1.85 billion for their new equity long-short fund, exceeding their initial $1.7 billion target. The company is on a growth mission over the next 3-5 years and sought a vendor that could offer highly innovative capabilities, enabling business growth without increasing their FTEs to maximize returns for investors and clients.
Challenge
The company needed an integrated desktop experience to streamline operations across investment, risk, operations, trading, and technology teams. Their goal was to modernize and improve efficiency, data access, and productivity without expanding their workforce. Rapid growth led to a React web application that supported all functions but became too large and unwieldy, lacking proper segmentation for individual functions. The main challenge was exposing the IP from the existing React web app without rewriting multiple new ones.
Solution
To tackle these challenges, the client implemented the interop.io platform, using io.Connect Desktop and io.Manager to build a next generation work environment with an integrated desktop experience. This allowed the Hedge Fund to standardize application design and adopt a micro-UI architecture with common interoperability patterns and window management. They integrated a large web application into the platform, creating customized experiences for each user function. The io.Connect platform allowed the client to expose IP from their existing web application, crafting specific layouts and workspaces tailored to each group’s needs in trading, analytics, and research.
During the trial, the client requested layout features that were quickly implemented and delivered, demonstrating interop.io’s rapid development cycles and commitment to continuous improvement and customer success, even during trials.
The implementation of io.Connect laid the foundation for the client’s next-generation platforms and portal programs. The interop.io platform standardized the discovery, display, and integration of loosely coupled micro-applications, reducing operating risk and accelerating the technology modernization program. Micro-applications, being easier to use, support, and maintain, allowed for targeted updates and flexible upgrades. This approach also simplified the integration of existing and third-party applications, providing a quick path to success and a sustainable model for future enhancements and replacements.
The client plans to enhance interoperability between workspaces and integrate third-party applications like Bloomberg, Flextrade OEMS, and Alphsense Research into tailored workflows for analytics, trading, and research. The technology team will continue developing customized solutions within the interop.io platform and use behavioral analytics to refine processes, further improving efficiency and effectiveness.
