Automating Global Custodian Operations with io.Connect Notifications Server

Goal

To eliminate inefficient, unstructured communication between the client’s operations teams that collaborate daily with operations teams at different financial institutions. The client’s teams relied heavily on email and chat to execute time-sensitive, data-rich processes—creating risk, delays, and a lack of auditability.

Challenge

Operations-to-operations workflows required multiple manual steps outside existing systems, introducing:

  • Delayed execution and miscommunication
  • Unclear ownership and approvals
  • Limited audit trails and transparency
  • Higher risk of data leakage and errors

Solution

The client partnered with interop.io to implement a secure, real-time collaboration platform, powered by the io.Connect Notifications Server. This solution replaced email-based workflows with structured, actionable notifications and lightweight browser-based microapps — no desktop installation required.

At the core of the solution was the Notifications Server, which enabled:

  • Smart routing and first-touch logic: notify many, but only one needs to act
  • Snoozing and retry behavior for unresolved tasks
  • Structured workflows triggered by notifications rather than email threads
  • Secure auditability and traceability throughout the process
  • Delivery via Symphony and other preferred communication channels

Each notification was linked to a lightweight microsite (or “microapp”) tailored to a specific business process — such as reconciliation breaks or trade anomaly resolution — with all logic and lifecycle state managed centrally through the io.Connect platform.

  • Operational Control: Notifications are now traceable, actionable events — improving oversight and reducing ambiguity.
